Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable organizations in the world, with its origins rooted in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles.
This is where several of the famous elements of Freemasonry have their roots. In medieval times, stonemasons often travelled to find work in different places.
To demonstrate their level of qualification, they would use touches, words, and signs to distinguish themselves from unqualified builders. Freemasonry uses the construction of analogies to teach members how to lead productive lives that benefit the communities in which they live.
What are the degrees of Freemasonry?
New members progress through three degrees of Freemasonry, culminating in the title of Master Mason. Each degree involves a ceremony where the moral and ethical teachings of Freemasonry are expressed and illustrated. One of the most rewarding parts of becoming a Mason is receiving your degrees and supporting others as they obtain theirs.
There are three degrees, each containing unique lessons for life.
First degree: Entered Apprentice
Second degree: Fellow (Companion) Mason.
Third degree: Master Mason
These ceremonies are not open to the public; they are for members only.
But we can tell you this: when you take part in an initiation ceremony, you become part of the history of Freemasonry.
Self-knowledge is the foundation of this path. By looking inward, a Mason discovers their strengths and weaknesses, their fears and desires. This process of introspection is fundamental because it allows the Brother Mason to recognize what they need to change and, with patience and perseverance, transform their character. It is not about attaining perfection, but about being in constant evolution, always striving to be a better version of oneself.
Personal and spiritual growth in Freemasonry is a never-ending journey, where every step, every lesson learned, and every brother encountered along the way contributes to the construction of a more complete and conscious being. Every Freemason has the opportunity to sculpt his own rough stone, perfecting it with every act of kindness, every reflection, and every ethical decision he makes.
Freemasonry welcomes men of all countries, religions, races, ages, incomes, educations, and opinions. However, to join Freemasonry, one must meet the following requirements:
Be a man at least 18 years old.
Believe in the existence of a Supreme Being, although Freemasonry does not concern itself with theological distinctions or particular religious beliefs.
Be of good moral character.
Be motivated to join for reasons not related to personal profit or social status, but for the benefit of constant improvement as a Human Being.
Be motivated by a favorable view of Freemasonry.
Be willing to gain knowledge and willing to adhere to the ancient usages and customs of the Fraternity.
